Internet Explorer 6 Compatibility

IE 6 is now over eight years old and, as to be expected, is the only browser that may have problems displaying Glide's standards-based CSS layout.

IE 6 PNG Transparency Issues
  • On some pages IE 6 may fail to properly implement the script Glide uses that gives IE 6 transparency support. We're looking into this deeper to see if it's a problem with the script, or just an ancient browser that has long been out of date. In any case, rest assured that if there is something we can do to fix the problem we will find out what it is (and do it, of course). Squashed

Expecting more bugs? We managed to squash the rest. At least all the ones we're aware of...

Notes of Interest

Building RapidWeaver themes that correctly serve a different version of your site depending on your visitor is quite a challenge. Our desire was to offer similar layout and customization options for the iPhone/Touch version as are available for the desktop version.

However - due to a limitation in RapidWeaver - it is not possible to do so and have those options only applied to the iPhone/Touch version***. For this reason, also, ExtraContent is not available on the iPhone/Touch version.

We have contacted Realmac Software about incorporating a framework for theme developers, similar to ones that are already in place, that would allow us to provide you with such options. Their response, though cordial, was not encouraging and they would give no timeline on when such a feature would be included.

Until that day comes, customizing the iPhone/Touch version of Glide - though possible - will be too difficult for most users to consider. If you would like Real Mac Software to include such a framework in future versions of RapidWeaver, please visit this poll we started in the forums to let them know.

***By using javascript to overwrite the DOM, much like we did for MobileFusion, doing this is possible - but could significantly increase load times for users visiting your site, and could potentially be a layout catastrophe if visitors have javascript turned off. This is obviously not ideal, so we have chosen not to do so in Glide.
